Security Operations Halt Over 400 Kg Kif, 110 Kg Cocaine

Algerian security forces have successfully carried out significant anti-drug operations this week, resulting in the seizure of over 510 kilograms of various illicit substances. These concerted efforts by the National People's Army and National Security forces across different regions underscore Algeria's ongoing commitment to combating drug trafficking and safeguarding national borders and public safety.
At the country's border with Morocco, joint units of the National People's Army and various security services intercepted attempts to smuggle over 4 quintals (400 kilograms) of processed kif. Additionally, security operations led to the confiscation of 368,937 psychotropic tablets. These border interdictions are a critical component of national strategy to prevent the entry of illegal narcotics.
Separately, specialized operational units of the National Security in Tamanrasset and In Salah dismantled two organized criminal networks, arresting ten individuals, including one foreign national. These operations led to the seizure of more than 110 kilograms of cocaine. In Tamanrasset, a search and intervention brigade apprehended eight individuals and confiscated over 82 kilograms of cocaine, along with 120 million centimes in cash, two vehicles, and a motorcycle. In In Salah, two members of another criminal network were arrested, and over 27 kilograms of cocaine, hidden within a vehicle's internal structure, were seized, along with two four-wheel-drive vehicles used in illicit activities. The suspects were subsequently presented before the Public Prosecutor at the specialized penal court in Ouargla.
