Algeria’s Futsal Team Battles Zambia for Debut CAN Qualification

Algeria's national futsal team is poised for a decisive encounter against Zambia on Friday, October 16, as they compete in the third and final day of the CAN Futsal 2026 group stage. The Fennecs are seeking to secure an historic qualification for the semi-finals in what marks their first participation in the competition's final phase. This crucial match, scheduled for 8 PM Algerian time at the Ibn Yassine hall in Rabat, presents an opportunity for the team to achieve their inaugural victory in the tournament.
Currently holding one point in Group A, the Algerian squad sits behind Zambia, who have three points, and the already-qualified group leaders, Morocco. Despite an initial loss to Morocco, the host nation and triple titleholder, the Algerian team demonstrated remarkable resilience by securing a 2-2 draw against Libya. This draw was achieved with two late goals, showcasing the Fennecs' determination to remain in contention for advancement.
For Algeria to progress to the semi-finals, a victory against Zambia is imperative. Such a win would enable the Fennecs to surpass their opponents in the group standings. The team will also closely monitor the outcome of the simultaneous match between Morocco and Libya, as the CAF's tie-breaking criteria could come into play. The objective for the Algerian futsal selection is clear: to clinch their first-ever success in the final phase of the competition and, potentially, advance to the last four in their debut appearance.
