Algeria’s Energy Sector Gains New Digital Maintenance Capability

Algeria’s National Well Works Company (ENTP), a subsidiary of Sonatrach, has inaugurated a new drilling equipment maintenance workshop in Hassi Messaoud. This 3,148.2-square-meter facility, known as EN2, is attached to the company's Petroleum Maintenance Directorate and represents a significant step in modernizing ENTP’s technical infrastructure. The inauguration ceremony was led by ENTP Chief Executive Officer Abdelghafour Ghellab and Brahim Akroum, head of Sonatrach Petroleum Services Holding (SSPP), alongside senior officials from Sonatrach and other group companies. The workshop is designed to handle heavy-duty maintenance, improve technical interventions, and enhance the reliability and operational readiness of drilling equipment.
The EN2 workshop incorporates modern lifting and handling systems, some with remote operation capabilities, a remote voice-communication system, and specialized technical equipment to streamline maintenance operations. Its infrastructure also includes refurbished offices, air conditioning, changing rooms, facial-recognition access controls, CCTV surveillance, and occupational safety and prevention equipment. These features are intended to improve working conditions, support productivity, and reduce the time and effort required for maintenance while upholding high safety standards. The new facility will also enable ENTP to broaden its maintenance services for petroleum equipment to both Algerian and foreign companies, strengthening its technical offering and position as a specialized partner in the sector.
Beyond the workshop, the visit highlighted ENTP EYES, the company’s digital operations center, which utilizes advanced technologies and artificial intelligence to monitor field activities, enhance remote supervision, and improve operational control. This center consolidates field data, analyzes operational information, and supports decision-making, aiming for more responsive management of drilling and well-maintenance operations. Furthermore, ENTP is actively developing domestic manufacturing capabilities, drawing on its technical expertise and industrial resources to produce equipment and components locally. This approach seeks to meet operational needs, deepen national industrial capacity, reduce reliance on imported solutions, and create domestic value within Algeria’s hydrocarbons industry, aligning with the sector's digital and industrial transformation.
