Ministry of Solidarity Signs Pact for Rural Women’s Training

Algeria marked World Rural Women's Day with a series of initiatives focused on bolstering the economic empowerment of women in rural areas. During the commemoration event, the Minister of National Solidarity, Family, and Women's Affairs, Soraya Mouloudji, underscored that the economic autonomy of rural women is a fundamental pillar of the sector's strategy and action plan. This approach aligns with the United Nations' emphasis on women and families as crucial partners in sustainable development and food security, recognizing their significant contributions to their families and society.

A key development during the commemoration was the signing of a cooperation convention with the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries. This agreement is designed to intensify awareness and training initiatives across various sectors benefiting rural women, particularly in areas rich with authentic, often labeled local products. The accord establishes a joint action program that fosters coordination between local solidarity cells and agricultural extension cells, which are affiliated with the National Institute for Agricultural Extension. These efforts are geared towards strengthening the economic independence of women residing in rural environments.

Minister Mouloudji highlighted the invaluable expertise of rural women in agriculture, traditional crafts, and the promotion of local produce, particularly terroir products. The ceremony also honored rural women from various regions who had distinguished themselves through their creations in agricultural and tourism sectors, successfully establishing small rural enterprises to commercialize Algerian local products. The overarching ambition of these efforts is to empower women by enhancing their capacities, expanding training opportunities, supporting their entrepreneurial ventures, and facilitating their integration into the wider economic circuit, thereby enabling them to transition from limited production to new prospects in commercialization, investment, and wealth creation.
