Industrial Growth Spurs 11 Million Ton Clinker Exports

Algeria's clinker exports have seen a substantial increase, now approaching 11 million tons annually. This marks a significant rise from previous levels of 4 to 5 million tons per year, underscoring the nation's developing production capabilities. The success of Algerian clinker on global markets highlights the expanding reach of the country's industrial output.

This upward trend in clinker exports is part of a broader enhancement of Algeria's industrial sector. According to foreign trade expert Ali Bey Nasri, Algeria has transitioned from importing iron and steel products worth $5 billion in prior periods to now exporting between $650 million and $700 million. Beyond construction materials, other sectors, including electro-household products, building materials, and food industries, are also generating surpluses for export after satisfying domestic demand.

These achievements reflect a strategic push to diversify Algeria's exports beyond hydrocarbons and strengthen its economic footprint, particularly within African markets. Initiatives to support this expansion include the establishment of an Algerian bank in Senegal with a capital of $100 million to facilitate financial transactions in West Africa. Additionally, Algerian enterprises like Sonelgaz are contributing to infrastructure projects on the continent, such as the construction of a 40-megawatt electricity generation plant in Niger and the training of 500 Nigerien students, alongside the ongoing activities of the Sonatrach group in the region.
