Sokon Algérie Plant to Produce 60,000 Vehicles Annually

The Sokon Algérie industrial project, focused on manufacturing buses and trucks in Batna, is entering a decisive phase as it approaches the commissioning of its first production line. Located in the Zana El Beïda industrial zone, the complex is designed to achieve a total annual production capacity of 60,000 vehicles. This significant undertaking represents an investment of 9.8 billion dinars and is poised to contribute substantially to the development of Algeria's national mechanical industry.

The 13.6-hectare complex includes three industrial units with dedicated production lines for SOKON brand buses and trucks, alongside facilities for welding, painting, logistics, and storage. The first truck production line is fully complete, while the remaining two lines show a 55% completion rate. In parallel with manufacturing, the project is developing "HANOU," a local brand designed in partnership with its Chinese counterpart, emphasizing local production and technology transfer over mere assembly. The initiative has already recruited and trained 450 workers, with plans to create 1,800 direct and 4,200 indirect jobs over time.

The project's progress was recently reviewed during a meeting at the Ministry of Industry, where Minister Farid Kourtel met with company representatives. The Minister underscored the importance of adhering to set deadlines and fostering effective, sustainable industrial activity. Additionally, the Director General of the Algerian Agency for Investment Promotion (AAPI), Omar Rekkache, and the Wali of Batna, Riadh Ben Ahmed, conducted a site visit. This industrial complex is designed to enhance national added value, support the industrial fabric, and promote sustainable job creation through increased local integration, including the development of a subcontracting network and the involvement of national companies in manufacturing components and spare parts.
