Red Crescent Launches Breast Cancer, Diabetes Prevention Initiatives

The Algerian Red Crescent has recently organized two awareness campaigns aimed at preventing breast cancer, cervical cancer, and diabetes. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to promote early disease detection and establish prevention as a daily practice and deeply rooted culture within Algerian society. The organization emphasizes health prevention through field awareness work and strengthened partnerships with national institutions and health actors, making health awareness a fundamental pillar for individual and community protection.
One campaign focused on the prevention of breast and cervical cancer, conducted in partnership with the Algerian Public Television Corporation. This specific activity took place at the corporation's headquarters in Algiers, targeting female employees and executives as part of the "Pink October" events. Doctors and specialists from the Algerian Red Crescent participated, providing medical guidance and awareness instructions on prevention methods, the importance of early detection and periodic examinations, and their role in improving treatment chances while reducing disease complications. This initiative is also set to extend to regional Algerian Television stations, involving local Red Crescent committees in Constantine, Oran, Bechar, Ouargla, and Annaba, specifically at the "Abdullah Nawariya" Mother and Child Specialized Hospital in El Bouni, to broaden the reach and impact of awareness messages.
Concurrently, the Algerian Red Crescent organized a separate awareness campaign for diabetes prevention. This effort was undertaken in cooperation with Vitalcare laboratories at the Sidi Mohammed Bouchanafa Multiservice Clinic in Algiers. The campaign offered blood sugar level measurements and HbA1C tests. Additionally, participants received dietary advice and health guidelines on preventing diabetes, emphasizing the adoption of a healthy and balanced lifestyle, as well as the importance of regular medical follow-up to mitigate the risks and complications associated with the disease.
