New Mostaganem Water Plant Enters Active Construction Phase

The construction of a major seawater desalination plant in Khadra, Mostaganem, has entered an active phase of realization. This significant development is marked by the launch of the first concrete pouring, indicating a crucial technical advancement on the ground. This operation follows the successful completion of preliminary earthworks, comprehensive topographic studies, and the finalization of complex engineering plans required for the deployment of civil works.
This progress was officially recognized during a joint inspection visit to the site, which included the Wali of Mostaganem, Ahmed Boudouh, and the President-Director General of the Algerian Desalination Company (ADC), Lahcène Badah. They were accompanied by leaders from Sonatrach group subsidiaries involved in the project, such as SARPI and the National Company for Major Oil Works (ENGTP), alongside technical executives and local authorities. The Khadra facility is a key project within the second complementary seawater desalination program, initiated under the impulse of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Upon its completion, the industrial complex is projected to achieve a daily production capacity of 300,000 cubic meters of potable water. This strategic water resource is designed to cover the daily needs of approximately three million citizens, encompassing the entire Mostaganem wilaya and several neighboring territories that face water stress. The plant is expected to stabilize the regional water distribution network, thereby reducing reliance on climatic variations and traditional underground reserves, further solidifying the country's water autonomy.
