Italian-Algerian Venture Cultivates 36,000 Hectares in Sahara

The "BF Algérie" project, a significant Algerian-Italian partnership, is underway in the Timimoun wilaya, specifically within the Amguidene agricultural perimeter located 200 km south of Timimoun. This initiative encompasses an expansive area of 36,000 hectares dedicated to the production of cereals and dry pulses. The project is considered a key investment for the state, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, towards realizing food security and fostering national economic growth.
Characterized by its integrated nature, the "BF Algérie" project combines the inherent capabilities and resources of Algeria's southern regions with Italian expertise in cultivating cereals and dry pulses. Its scope covers various stages of production, from seed generation and crop cultivation to storage and industrial processing, thereby contributing to the reinforcement of the national food industry. Beyond its strategic agricultural goals, the project is also expected to generate added value for local development, notably through the creation of new job opportunities for young people in the region.
Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Ali Khaldi, emphasized the project's strategic importance during an inspection visit. He affirmed the ministerial department's support, providing accompaniment and deploying experts from national specialized institutes to aid the project. Current developments include the receipt of the electricity generation station and rapid progress in the construction of the road network, while other facilities continue to be developed. Algeria is recognized for its distinguished experience in Saharan agriculture, which further underscores the project's potential.
