Digital System Launched for Algerian Market Price Oversight

Algeria's Ministry of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation has introduced a new digital system and strengthened its control measures to enhance price monitoring and market regulation. This initiative aims to ensure daily oversight of prices, product availability, and supply across national markets, particularly for fruits, vegetables, and various consumer products. The move follows specific instructions issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on October 18, 2026, for continuous monitoring of essential product prices and their availability.

The new digital system includes a dedicated platform and a mobile application designed to empower consumers. These tools allow citizens to report potential price violations, issues related to cleanliness and hygiene, or any other concerns impacting their safety and health. Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Amal Abdellatif, has also instructed a reinforcement of control teams and an increase in field operations to verify prices and product availability daily.

This comprehensive approach also incorporates decentralized monitoring, with regional trade directorates tasked with providing daily updates on prices, availability, and supply across the country. Enhanced coordination with other relevant sectors is also planned to foster a more regular view of market dynamics. Furthermore, merchants are mandated to clearly display product prices, a measure that aids both consumer transparency and the work of control agents. These combined efforts aim to provide the ministry with more detailed information, enabling quicker identification and intervention regarding market irregularities.
