President Tebboune Commits Full Support to Journalism Sector

Minister of Communication Mohamed Bouslimani presided over the celebration of National Press Day at the International Conference Center "Abdellatif Rahal", where he conveyed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's greetings and congratulations to the national press family. The Minister emphasized the President's full support for the promotion of the journalism and media sector. This backing is aimed at enhancing the professional performance of media practitioners and serving the citizen's right to information.

Bouslimani highlighted that the state's interest in the communication sector and journalism specifically is part of a comprehensive policy to achieve sustainable development. This policy seeks to strengthen the system of rights and freedoms, and to realize development within a framework of security and stability. He also recalled the sacrifices made by Algerian media pioneers who dedicated their profession to defending the nation and its noble human values, asserting that this honorable legacy continues to inspire new generations of journalists. The Ministry of Communication is actively preparing implementing texts to complete the legal framework for the media, encompassing the Organic Law on Information, the Audiovisual Activity Law, and the Written and Electronic Press Law. These texts address journalistic practice, audiovisual production, and training processes. The Ministry is also focused on strengthening digital governance, prioritizing data security and protection against cyber risks as part of the national digital transformation.

The Minister praised the national press for its role in accompanying the various "qualitative and unprecedented" projects initiated by the state in recent years, which have garnered both national and international media attention. He underscored the media's critical function in bringing administration closer to citizens by disseminating information, explaining procedures, and supporting achievements that signify a profound positive shift in Algerian policy. Furthermore, Bouslimani commended the national press for its commitment to highlighting Algeria's resilience in overcoming challenges and resisting sedition, attributing this strength to the solidity of the internal front and the cohesion between the people and the army. He specifically referenced the extensive solidarity with victims of last summer's fires as an example. The Minister also valued the national sentiment and professional standards upheld by the national press, recognizing these as essential for honoring the profession and elevating its role, particularly in countering disinformation campaigns. During the ceremony, a framework agreement was signed between the National Communication, Publishing, and Advertising Enterprise and the International Press Center, with attendees including government members and officials from national and international media bodies.
