Minister Meddahi Inspects Algiers Safir Hotel Rehabilitation Progress

The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, conducted an inspection visit to the Safir Hotel in Algiers this week, to oversee the ongoing rehabilitation and modernization program for public hotel establishments. During her visit, she assessed the progress of the renovation efforts, which are part of a broader strategy by the ministry to upgrade Algeria's hospitality sector.
A notable advancement in the completion rate of the Safir Hotel project was observed, enabling the responsible company to commence the equipment and complete furnishing phase for several suites, including the fitting out of 137 rooms. Minister Meddahi emphasized the importance of delivering the project within the stipulated contractual deadlines and called for an acceleration of the work pace through the implementation of a 3×8 rotation system. She also directed that daily monitoring be ensured and that high-standard quality, aesthetic, and hotel requirements are met, commensurate with the establishment's prestige.
The Safir Hotel, managed by the Hotellerie, Tourisme et Thermisme (HTT) Group, is recognized for its architectural significance and strategic location in the capital, offering direct views of the seafront. These attributes position it as an iconic establishment whose "Palace" classification should be restored, allowing it to re-establish its place among high-end tourist destinations. The ongoing rehabilitation is expected to prepare the hotel to welcome tourists and visitors, thereby contributing to the strengthening and promotion of tourist services across Algeria.
The modernization and rehabilitation of public hotels, such as the Safir, are central to the Ministry of Tourism's wider efforts to enhance the public hotel inventory, improve service quality, and bolster Algeria's appeal as a premier tourist destination. This strategic focus aims to ensure that Algeria's hospitality infrastructure can effectively support the nation's growing tourism ambitions.
