Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb Attends 8th Gas Exporting Countries Forum Summit in Moscow

MOSCOW, October 27, 2026 – Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb participated on Tuesday in the opening of the eighth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), held in the Russian capital, Moscow, representing President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

The Algerian Prime Minister arrived at the World Trade Center in Moscow, where he was welcomed by Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of the summit’s opening ceremony. The event also featured an official group photograph bringing together heads of delegations and representatives of participating countries.

According to a statement from the Algerian Prime Minister’s Office, Algeria‘s participation reflects its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and coordination among natural gas-producing countries, particularly amid ongoing changes in global energy markets and current geopolitical and economic challenges.

The summit brings together leaders and senior officials from major gas-exporting nations to discuss the future of natural gas markets, global energy security, infrastructure development and the adoption of advanced technologies in gas production.

Discussions also focus on strengthening cooperation among member countries, which collectively account for a substantial share of the world’s natural gas reserves, production and international exports.

Algeria’s participation follows its hosting of the seventh GECF Summit in March 2024, chaired by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. That meeting concluded with the adoption of the Algiers Declaration, which emphasized the importance of closer cooperation among gas-producing countries, market stability and the protection of shared economic interests.

The declaration also highlighted the need for continued dialogue among stakeholders in the global gas industry while reaffirming the role of natural gas in international energy security and future energy development.

Tuesday’s opening ceremony was chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who emphasized the contribution of GECF member countries to global energy security. The gathering was also attended by GECF Secretary General Philip Mshelbila, alongside leaders and representatives of member and observer countries.

Another important focus of the Moscow summit is attracting investment into the natural gas sector and developing new gas markets, particularly in Africa and other emerging regions.

Participants are also examining opportunities to expand energy infrastructure, encourage technological cooperation and establish sustainable, long-term partnerships between producing and consuming countries.

For Algeria, a major natural gas producer and exporter, the summit provides an opportunity to participate in discussions shaping the international energy landscape and reinforce cooperation with other gas-exporting nations.

The Moscow gathering comes at a time when energy-producing countries are seeking to address market uncertainty, strengthen supply security and develop mutually beneficial partnerships in an evolving global energy environment.
