Higher Education Mobilizes Science for Algerian Water Protection

Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Kamal Badari affirmed Algeria's dedication to employing its full scientific and technical potential for the protection and sustainable management of national water resources. Speaking at the conclusion of the International Conference on the Protection of Watercourses and Prevention of Environmental Pollution in Tlemcen, where 35 countries participated over four days, Minister Badari underscored the strategic importance of safeguarding water resources and ensuring their sustainability for both current and future generations. Water is recognized as a vital natural resource essential for life, development, and stability.

Algeria is committed to mobilizing the scientific and technical capacities of its higher education and scientific research institutions, including laboratories, research centers, and experts, to contribute to water resource protection. This effort includes enhancing scientific and technological vigilance, developing early warning mechanisms, and supporting decision-making based on accurate scientific data. Such measures aim to enable effective management of risks threatening water resources and the environment.

Minister Badari called for the outcomes of the international conference to be leveraged into practical initiatives and joint research projects. These endeavors are intended to foster cooperation among researchers and institutions, develop mechanisms for exchanging data and expertise on transboundary surface and groundwater, and improve knowledge for their protection and sustainable use. He also emphasized establishing a culture of shared responsibility in environmental protection and pollution control, advocating for enhanced coordination among scientific institutions and relevant bodies. Success in these efforts relies on transforming scientific research findings and academic recommendations into actionable field solutions and sustainable cooperation programs, ultimately strengthening water security at both national and international levels.
