Five-Year Period Marks 18% Rise in Algerian Students in France

The number of Algerian students pursuing higher education in France has increased by 18% over the last five years, according to data released by Campus France. For the academic year 2024-2025, a total of 34,758 Algerian students are enrolled in French universities, making up 8% of the total foreign student population in France. This places Algeria as the second most represented nationality among international students in the country.

These figures are part of a broader trend in France, where the total number of foreign students enrolled in higher education for 2024-2025 reached 443,500. This includes 10,800 foreign apprentices in higher technician sections. This overall figure represents a 3% increase over the past year and a 17% rise over the last five years, as reported by Campus France, citing data from the French Ministry of Higher Education and the Sub-directorate for Information Systems and Statistical Studies (SIES).

While Morocco continues to hold the top position in terms of student numbers, experiencing a 3% decline over five years, Algerian student enrollment has remained stable year-on-year with a 1% increase, demonstrating robust expansion over the longer five-year period. Tunisia also registered significant growth, with a 22% increase in students over five years, placing them sixth overall. Both Algeria and Tunisia are noted for their strong growth trajectories in student mobility to France.
