Algeria Puts Journalist Training at the Heart of Media Modernisation

ALGIERS, October 13, 2026 (DZWatch) — Algeria’s investment in journalist training is part of a broader effort to strengthen credible reporting, counter disinformation and support national development, Communication Minister Mohamed Bouslimani said at a training day devoted to language proficiency and artificial intelligence.
Organised by the Ministry of Communication in cooperation with the Higher Council for the Arabic Language ahead of National Press Day, the initiative reflects President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s call for greater media professionalism and continued support for the sector.
Bouslimani stressed that while AI can assist with writing, translation and content production, journalists remain responsible for verifying sources, ensuring accuracy and upholding professional ethics. Specialised training, he said, is essential to confront false information that threatens stability, social cohesion and public awareness, particularly among young people.
The programme also places linguistic precision at the centre of quality journalism. Cooperation with the council includes training, translation and a planned Arabic-English-French dictionary of media and communication terminology.
By linking language skills, technological competence and editorial responsibility, the initiative underscores Algeria’s view of professional journalism as a strategic asset: informing citizens, defending national interests and accompanying the country’s digital transformation.
