Council of Ministers Advances Goods Monitoring, Key Project Reviews

President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, chaired a Council of Ministers meeting on 18 October 2026. According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, the meeting reviewed several key presentations focused on national development and public welfare.

A primary topic of deliberation involved a proposed mechanism for the daily monitoring of the prices and availability of essential consumer goods across the country. This initiative highlights the government's commitment to ensuring market stability and the accessibility of crucial provisions for citizens.

The Council also received updates on the progress of two substantial infrastructure projects. These included the mining railway line designed to connect Bled El Hadba to the port of Annaba, as well as the development of a dedicated mining quay as part of the broader Annaba port expansion. These developments are intended to enhance Algeria's logistical capabilities and support its vital mining sector.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed a third presentation concerning draft contracts for works connecting outfalls to new seawater desalination plants. These contracts, planned for direct negotiation, pertain to facilities in the provinces of Chlef and Mostaganem, reflecting ongoing national efforts to bolster water security through advanced desalination technologies.
