Laghouat-Tamanrasset Rail Project Moves to Immediate Implementation

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has issued a directive for the immediate launch of the Laghouat-El Meniaa-In Salah-Tamanrasset railway project. This strategic infrastructure initiative, which is slated for delivery by 2028, reflects a strong political commitment to accelerating major developments and expanding the national transport network in the country's southern regions. Economic experts view this presidential decision as a significant transition from the planning phase to concrete field mobilization, highlighting its critical role in enhancing the competitiveness of Algerian exports.

The project will be implemented by Algerian national companies, leveraging their expertise gained from recent infrastructure undertakings. Experts like Mourad Kouachi affirm that Algerian competencies are prepared to meet the railway construction challenge, drawing on practical experience from projects such as the western mining line connecting Bechar, Tindouf, and Gara Djebilet. This self-reliance in executing large-scale projects within specified timelines reinforces confidence in national technical, human, and financial capabilities.

Beyond its primary function as a railway, this initiative represents a substantial investment in regional development. It is expected to reduce isolation for vast areas of the southern homeland, thereby unlocking new prospects for investment, production, and trade. The President also emphasized the strategic importance of the phosphate platform at Annaba port, affirming its role as a regional and Mediterranean imperative for valuing national mineral wealth through integrated production, transport, and export, further boosting Algeria's presence in international markets.
