Madrid Chamber Organizes Algeria Business Day for Investment

The Madrid Chamber of Commerce is set to organize a business day on October 14, dedicated to exploring opportunities in Algeria. This initiative will involve several companies and institutions, including Naturgy, Aresbank, and Air Algérie, with the aim of analyzing investment, expansion, and cooperation prospects for Spanish companies within the Algerian market. The event takes place amidst a recovery in relations between Algeria and Spain and a renewed interest from Spanish businesses in strengthening their presence in Algeria. This gathering signifies a mutual desire to move beyond simple trade exchanges towards broader, more structured economic cooperation focused on extensive projects.
For Algeria, the primary objective extends beyond merely increasing imports from Spain; it seeks to foster a cooperation model centered on productive investment, industrial establishment, technology transfer, and the development of local capabilities. Economic expert Kheddir Chine noted that the importance of this event lies in its timing, coinciding with a renewed Spanish corporate interest following the stabilization of bilateral relations. According to Kheddir Chine, such meetings are crucial for transitioning from traditional commercial exchanges to exploring long-term investment opportunities and economic partnerships, particularly by enabling participants to directly understand market needs and investment-ready sectors.
Algeria aims to position itself as a strategic platform for Spanish companies to produce goods and subsequently expand their operations into African markets, leveraging its geographical location and cooperative ties across the continent. Kheddir Chine highlighted that sectors such as energy, processing industries, infrastructure, agro-food, transport, logistics, and services offer a suitable foundation for expanding economic cooperation, given their direct relevance to economic and development needs. Furthermore, establishing genuine industrial partnerships, rather than short-term commercial links, is essential for Algeria to become a production and export hub for African markets.
The expansion of economic cooperation is expected to benefit both parties, with Algeria seeking investments that contribute to economic diversification, industrial development, and technology transfer. Spanish companies, in turn, can capitalize on the Algerian market's opportunities and the country's potential for expansion into Africa. This framework allows for more stable and structured investment partnerships than limited trade relations. The Madrid business day is seen as a chance to deepen dialogue, with the potential to move from general opportunity presentations to identifying concrete, executable projects, ultimately strengthening Algeria's role as a destination for investment, production, and a gateway to African markets.
