Oran Museum Commemorates 1961 Immigration Day Demonstrations

The Moudjahid State Museum in Oran recently organized a series of cultural activities to commemorate the 65th anniversary of National Immigration Day. This observance honored the demonstrations of October 17, 1961, under the theme "From the depth of memory to the horizons of the future." The event highlighted Algeria's commitment to preserving its national history and the sacrifices made during its War of Independence.
The program, coordinated by the Directorate of Religious Affairs and Endowments for Oran Province, alongside the Moudjahid State Museum and Abdallah Ibn Salam Mosque/Al-Salam Group, featured a diverse range of activities. These included historical theatrical performances and religious discussions centered on the nation's heritage. Additionally, literacy mothers and students from the Abdallah Ibn Salam Mosque presented national anthems, with performances delving into key moments of Algerian history and the sacrifices of martyrs for freedom and independence.
The commemoration served as an important occasion to underscore the significance of safeguarding national memory and embedding the values of loyalty to the martyrs and the homeland. Through artistic and educational initiatives directed at younger generations, the event aimed to illustrate the profound sacrifices Algerians made in their pursuit of liberty. The activities also included a moment of remembrance for the martyrs, concluding with an honor bestowed upon the director of Oran's Moudjahid State Museum, Mr. Siddiqi Mokhtar, for his role in upholding this national heritage.
