Tebboune’s Economic Vision Draws Wide International Media Coverage

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's recent engagement with economic operators in Algiers garnered significant attention from international media outlets. The widespread coverage highlighted Algeria's commitment to fostering a diversified economy with a stronger emphasis on national production, reflecting a positive global acknowledgment of the nation's economic vision and strategic direction. This meeting, which marked the third such interaction between the President and business leaders in three years, signals a direct channel for government-business dialogue aimed at ensuring the country's financial stability.
Italian news agency Agenzia Nova extensively reported on Algeria's ambition to boost its diversified economy and national production by 2027. It detailed the progress made in recent years, outlining the public authorities' industrial and agricultural targets, and underscored the gradual shift from a managed to a free economy while preserving the state's social role. Agenzia Nova also cited substantial economic achievements, including a reduction in imports by $40-42 billion and the local production covering 84% of national medicine requirements, alongside goals for grain self-sufficiency by 2027 and the growth of national industries.
Further international attention came from Russian news website Pravda.ru, which emphasized President Tebboune's invitation to economic operators to contribute to the development of a competitive economy capable of withstanding global fluctuations. Meanwhile, The Rio Times, an English online newspaper based in Brazil, specifically covered the President's announcement regarding the production of an Algerian car by the end of 2028. This objective, as reported, is supported by cooperative programs with German and Italian partners, aiming to integrate locally manufactured components such as gearboxes and wheels.
Overall, foreign media collectively underscored Algeria's stated ambitions for economic diversification, the enhancement of national production capabilities, and a reduced reliance on imports. This consistent international reporting reinforces the perception of Algeria's strategic shift towards a more productive economic model, less dependent on hydrocarbons, aligning with President Tebboune's long-term economic vision.
