High-Level International Colloquium in Béjaïa Explores Culture of Resistance Under Presidential Patronage
A high-level international colloquium is currently underway in Béjaïa from August 18 to 20, organized by the Haut-commissariat à l’amazighité (HCA) under the distinguished patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This significant event commemorates the 70th anniversary of the historic Soummam Congress, which occurred on August 20, 1956. The colloquium is centered on the theme of “The culture of resistance between History, memory and imagination,” highlighting Algeria's deep commitment to its rich historical narrative and cultural heritage.
The choice of theme specifically emphasizes the Soummam Congress as a pivotal geopolitical turning point in the glorious Liberation Revolution. This landmark event made strategic contributions to unifying revolutionary action, structuring its political and military institutions, and establishing the organizational references that guided the armed struggle. It also formed the robust core for the construction of the modern national state, complete with its sovereign institutions, underscoring its enduring legacy on Algerian national identity and governance.
Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Moudjahidine and Rights Holders, the General Directorate of National Archives, and the National Commission for History and Memory, with assistance from the wilaya of Béjaïa, this colloquium reflects a firm political will and a constant state concern. It aims to meticulously preserve national memory, safeguard the historical heritage of national heroes, and transmit these invaluable legacies with sincerity and responsibility to future generations. Such initiatives perpetuate the culture of loyalty towards the sacrifices made by the chouhada and Moudjahidine, thereby strengthening the nation's identity and fostering pride in its liberation journey, which continues to inspire free peoples globally.
