Algerian Army Editorial Affirms National Stability as Paramount for Sovereignty and Progress

The August 2026 editorial of the National People's Army (ANPA) magazine, titled "Stability of the Homeland… The Sacred Duty," firmly asserts that Algeria's security and stability are a top priority, transcending all other considerations. This affirmation coincides with the commemoration of the National Day of the ANPA on August 4th, a day established by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Head of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, in recognition of the military institution's vital role in defending the nation and its sovereignty.
The editorial highlights the ANPA's historical continuity as the successor of the National Liberation Army, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to the legacy of the martyrs and its responsibility to defend Algeria and safeguard its territorial and popular unity. It states that the army's strength and its continuous fulfillment of duties are deeply rooted in the history of the Algerian people and the epic struggles of the Liberation Revolution. Despite rapid regional and international transformations, Algeria has successfully maintained its security and stability, attributed by the editorial to the cohesion of its people, institutions, and the awareness of its citizens. The publication underscores that security and stability form the essential foundation upon which development is built, noting Algeria's sustained achievements in investment, infrastructure, and economic and social progress. President Tebboune's recent statements were referenced, emphasizing the critical importance of Algerian citizens' awareness in confronting various challenges, affirming that Algeria will not succumb to pressures or threats, and reiterating that "the stability of the homeland is paramount above all else."
The ANPA magazine also affirmed the military's ongoing professional execution of its constitutional duties, particularly securing national borders and combating terrorism and organized crime, while continually enhancing its operational readiness and developing its human and technical capabilities. General Saïd Chengriha, Chief of Staff of the ANPA, was cited as confirming the army's persistent developmental trajectory through upgrading its material and human resources and strengthening its defensive and technical capacities to meet its assigned missions and maintain the trust placed in it by the people. Furthermore, the editorial recognized the spirit of solidarity observed during the recent wildfires in some parts of the country, presenting it as a living example of the cohesion between the people and state institutions, with joint efforts of ANPA members, civil protection, forest services, and citizens reflecting a deeply ingrained culture of solidarity and national responsibility, echoing the spirit of the Liberation Revolution.
