State Aid for Forest Fire Victims Begins August 18

State aid for citizens affected by recent forest fires across several Algerian provinces will commence distribution on August 18. This initiative follows detailed instructions issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at compensating for various damages sustained during the blazes that occurred in July.

The assistance package is designed to address losses to agricultural products, housing, furniture, equipment, and electrical appliances. To receive their allocated state aid, all affected citizens are directed to visit their respective municipal offices starting from the designated date.

The Ministry of Interior, Local Communities, and Transport announced on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the commencement of this compensation process, following the completion of comprehensive damage assessments. Local and national evaluation committees concluded their work to enumerate the damages caused by the forest fires on August 11, with the final lists of affected citizens and eligible damages subsequently forwarded to the relevant sectors and states, paving the way for the implementation of these final decisions.
