Kangamba Film Projection Highlights Algerian-Cuban Ties

The National Moudjahid Museum in Algiers recently hosted the screening of the historical film "Kangamba," an initiative by the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Algeria. The event commemorated the centenary of Cuban leader Fidel Castro's birth, observed under the slogan "100 ans avec Fidel." Directed and written by Rogelio Paris in 2008, the film chronicles the combat of Cuban soldiers who supported Angolan government forces in August 1983. The projection drew a notable audience, including the Cuban Ambassador to Algeria, Hector Igarza Cabrera, moudjahidine, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and enthusiasts of film and history.

During the occasion, Ambassador Cabrera expressed his country's honor in presenting the film at the National Moudjahid Museum, an institution revered for preserving the memory of the Algerian people's struggle for independence and symbolizing national resistance, dignity, and sovereignty. The diplomat underscored the profound, shared values and principles between Algeria and Cuba, particularly their commitment to solidarity and the defense of freedom and the rights of peoples. This cultural exchange serves to reinforce the deep-seated historical and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Furthermore, Ambassador Cabrera reiterated Cuba's steadfast position in support of the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes, affirming the right of both peoples to self-determination and to live freely and independently. The event also highlighted the significant legacy of Fidel Castro, recognizing him as an emblematic leader who championed just causes throughout contemporary history. Complementing the film screening, a photographic exhibition was organized in the museum's hall, showcasing various stages of the Cuban leader's journey and his historical relationships with several African liberation movements and their leaders, including those in Algeria and South Africa, further illustrating the enduring bonds forged through shared struggles.
