AI Strategy Moves to Implementation Phase
A follow-up meeting took place to review the implementation progress of Algeria's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. This gathering marked a transition from the planning stage to the practical execution of the strategy's priority projects and main axes. Discussions centered on evaluating the advancement of sectoral financial estimations necessary to cover operations outlined in the strategy's roadmap, along with monitoring the accomplishments of various specialized committees.
The Data and Infrastructure Committee defined 17 operations related to infrastructure and 14 operations concerning data for 2026, specifically targeting future needs for equipment to localize AI applications. As part of these efforts, a proposal was made to create a complex integrating public and private economic institutions to bolster national technological and economic capabilities. Additionally, an updated draft decree for establishing the National Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data received approval, slated for further legal procedures.
Other committees also reported significant progress. The Continuous Training in AI Committee outlined 85 training operations designed to enhance human resource skills across various sectors through precise, thematic programs. The AI Doctorate Committee detailed training axes for an upcoming PhD competition in November 2026. The Funding Committee presented diverse mechanisms, including public, national fund, banking, international, and private sector contributions, alongside investing returns from AI applications. Furthermore, the International Cooperation Committee identified institutional frameworks and initiatives for Algeria's engagement in global AI, focusing on priority areas that serve national objectives. The National Thematic Research Network in AI confirmed the integration of strategy operations into National Research Projects (PNR) starting October 2026.
This comprehensive meeting underscores a more practical orientation in the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy's execution. It emphasizes mobilizing resources, developing essential infrastructure and data, building human capacities, advancing language models, and strengthening both scientific research and international collaboration.
