Holcim El-Djazaïr Drives Green Entrepreneurship in Mascara

Holcim El-Djazaïr has launched an initiative in Mascara, hosting a technical awareness day at its Oggaz factory. This event, part of the global "Geocycle Week" dedicated to the circular economy and waste valorization, targets young individuals from regional training centers. The goal is to inform them about opportunities in the circular economy and waste management, encouraging the creation of small businesses, PMEs, or start-ups within this developing sector.

The Geocycle activity, which involves valorizing industrial waste in cement plants, aligns with two key objectives: preserving non-renewable natural resources and optimizing energy performance. Amidst geopolitical tensions and a global energy crisis, the rationalization of natural gas consumption has become a national priority for Algeria. By substituting fossil fuels with alternative fuels derived from waste, the Geocycle initiative actively contributes to national efforts to conserve natural gas locally, thus making it available for export and enabling Algeria to strategically address increasing international demand.

Beyond raising awareness, Holcim El-Djazaïr aims to foster a local entrepreneurial ecosystem centered on waste collection, sorting, treatment, and valorization. Participants in the initiative gain insights into sector challenges, identify potential project opportunities, and learn the conditions necessary for their development. The event also facilitates discussions with representatives from the banking sector, who present financing mechanisms, and institutional actors, including environmental services, who provide insights into the regulatory framework and existing support systems. Through this initiative, Holcim El-Djazaïr reaffirms its dedication to sustainable industry and creating opportunities for young people, contributing to skill development and new environmental and territorial initiatives.
