Algiers-Tamanrasset Rail Line Project Accelerates Toward Launch

Abdelkader Djellawi, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, chaired a significant coordination meeting today at the ministry's headquarters. The session focused on monitoring the ongoing preparations for the launch of the strategic railway line connecting the northern regions of Algeria to Tamanrasset.
This crucial project is designed to link various wilayas, including Laghouat, Ghardaia, El Menia, and In Salah, before reaching Tamanrasset. The meeting brought together central ministry officials, general managers, and representatives from a consortium of national and international entities. Key participants included the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of Railway Investment (ANESRIF), Infra Rail, Cosider TP, Cosider OA, SNTP, ENGOA, Infrafer, Sero Est, Sapta, Seti Rail, Saeti, GCB Group, along with Chinese firms CRCC and CCECC.
During the meeting, attendees reviewed the progress of preparations for specific segments of the project, including the 495-kilometer section from Laghouat to El Menia via Ghardaia, and the El Menia to Kilometer Point 216, as well as the 213-kilometer stretch from Tamanrasset to Moulay Lahcen. Discussions also covered the readiness of workshops, the resources allocated for work commencement, and the measures put in place to support the project. Minister Djellawi underscored the strategic importance of such railway initiatives, particularly the Algiers-Tamanrasset line. He urged all stakeholders to intensify coordination and follow-up, emphasizing the need to expedite remaining procedures to ensure the timely field launch of workshops.
