Libya-Algeria Direct Flights Resume After Ten-Year Pause

Air Algérie has recommenced direct flight services to Libya following a ten-year suspension. The national carrier confirmed the decision, establishing new connections between Algiers' Houari-Boumédiène International Airport and the capital airport in Tripoli. The inaugural commercial flight is scheduled to depart Algiers on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 9:00 AM. Initially, Air Algérie will operate two weekly flights on this route, with services available on Wednesdays and Fridays.
This resumption of air links follows an agreement reached in April 2026 between Algeria's National Civil Aviation Agency and the Libyan Government of National Unity's Ministry of Transport. The comprehensive document also encompasses air cargo flights, indicating broader cooperation. Under the terms of the agreement and prevailing official procedures, both partnering entities are permitted to operate up to 14 flights per week on the route.
The first return flight from Tripoli to Algiers is slated for Friday, October 30, 2026. Air Algérie has specified that tickets for these flights include allowances for both hand baggage and checked baggage. Passengers also have the flexibility to modify their travel dates, though refunds are not an option. The restart of these services signifies a renewal of business activities and is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and foster cooperation within the Maghreb.
