Tunisia, Algeria Plan 1,400 MW Combined-Cycle Power Plant

Algeria and Tunisia are exploring the construction of a 1,400 megawatt combined-cycle power plant, an initiative aimed at strengthening their energy cooperation. This significant project was a central topic during discussions between the Tunisian Minister of Equipment and Housing, also managing the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Salah Zouari, and his Algerian counterpart, Mourad Adjal. The proposed power plant underscores a joint commitment to reinforcing energy security and addressing future energy demands in both countries.

Beyond the new plant, the two officials also addressed several other avenues for enhanced energy collaboration. Discussions included the potential reactivation of the Maghreb Electricity Commission (Comelec) and ways to strengthen partnerships between Tunisia's STEG and Algeria's Sonelgaz group. Tunisia expressed a desire to leverage Algeria's expertise within the energy sector, while Algeria reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Tunisia's energy supply and continuing its electricity exports to the country.

These comprehensive discussions highlight a shared strategic vision for deepening the energy partnership between Algeria and Tunisia. By pursuing projects like the 1,400 MW power plant and fostering closer ties between their respective energy institutions, both nations aim to ensure robust energy security and effectively meet their evolving energy requirements.
