EU Ambassador Highlights Algeria’s Green Hydrogen Leadership Potential

Major European countries have entered into a significant hydrogen deal with Algeria, reinforcing the nation's standing as an energy supplier. This development follows remarks from the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Mellado Pascua, who underscored Algeria's key competitive advantages for assuming a leading role in the development of green hydrogen. These assets include Algeria's strategic geographic location, its robust energy infrastructure, and extensive experience within the energy sector.
Ambassador Pascua, speaking on the sidelines of the 14th Napec exhibition in Oran, highlighted the crucial importance of the “SoutH2 Corridor” project. This initiative aims to connect Algeria with Tunisia, Italy, Austria, and Germany, facilitating the transfer of green hydrogen to the European continent. He affirmed that this project is “essential and important,” as the movement of green hydrogen is poised to support Europe's energy transition goals and further strengthen the energy partnership between Algeria and the European Union.
The Ambassador also noted the European Union's participation with a unified pavilion at this year's Napec exhibition, marking its first such involvement. This presence, he indicated, reflects the robust and strategic nature of the energy partnership that binds the EU and Algeria. Furthermore, Ambassador Pascua conveyed optimism regarding ongoing discussions with Algeria, which are focused on achieving mutually beneficial solutions and fostering stronger economic partnerships between both parties.
