Skikda Police Seize 2,250 Psychotropic Capsules

Elements of the mobile judicial police brigade of the Skikda wilaya security successfully intercepted a consignment of psychotropic substances, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The operation, initiated following intelligence regarding an attempt to transport a cargo of psychotropes to the city center via the bus station, resulted in the seizure of 2,250 capsules of pregabalin. The three suspects were apprehended at various locations across the city as the police monitored their movements.

Upon completion of legal procedures, the arrested individuals were presented before the territorially competent public prosecutor at the Skikda tribunal. This operation underscores the ongoing commitment of Algerian authorities to combat drug trafficking. It aligns with the national strategy to intensify measures against networks involved in the illicit trade of drugs and psychotropes, reinforcing both security and judicial mechanisms across the country.

The broader national context includes decisions by the High Security Council to establish a specialized security body dedicated to combating drug trafficking, alongside the creation of a high-security prison in the extreme south for major drug traffickers. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has also overseen the transformation of a military barracks in Tinzaouatine, within the Grand Sahara, into a specialized prison for these criminals. Furthermore, the legislature has strengthened repressive measures against severe drug-related offenses through Law No. 25-03, which provides for the death penalty in aggravated cases, particularly those linked to transnational organized crime or threats to national security and public order.
