Nordic-Africa Summit: Algeria Seeks True Partnership

The 15th Scandinavian-African Economic Summit in Oslo, Norway, saw Algeria participate as a special guest of honor, articulating its aspiration for a "true partnership" with Nordic countries. Leading the Algerian delegation, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Sid Ali Khaldi, highlighted Algeria's commitment to fostering cooperation founded on investment, technology transfer, and strengthened training across various sectors. This proactive engagement underscores Algeria's focus on diversifying its economy and enhancing its global economic presence.
During the summit, Minister Khaldi emphasized expanded collaboration in critical areas such as agriculture and fisheries. He held discussions with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, where both officials acknowledged the excellent level of existing bilateral relations and explored promising opportunities for economic cooperation. Algeria positioned itself as a significant destination for partnership and investment, leveraging its economic assets to reinforce non-hydrocarbon exports.
Algeria's participation also underscored its national priorities, notably making food security a major national imperative integral to its sovereignty. The nation's dedication to African integration was further highlighted through its development of structural mega-projects, including the Trans-Saharan Road, the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, and the continental optical fiber backbone project. These initiatives reinforce Algeria's role as a regional economic driver and align with a broader vision for Africa's economic sovereignty, drawing inspiration from pioneering models like Norway's sustainable resource management.
