Education Ministry Refutes Reports on Mothers’ Exclusion

Algeria's Ministry of National Education has issued a clarification regarding the status of legal guardians for students, refuting inaccurate reports circulating on social media. The ministry addressed discussions that arose from notes shared by some educational establishments, which had questioned mothers' roles in engaging with schools. This official statement aims to provide clarity and reaffirm established practices concerning parental involvement.

In a communiqué, the ministry explicitly denied having published any instructions that would prevent mothers from tracking their children's academic progress within educational institutions. The ministry clarified that the responsibility for monitoring students falls to both parents, within the framework of their agreement with the respective educational establishment concerning which parent assumes this role.

The Ministry of National Education underscored that overseeing students' academic advancement, results, discipline, and behavior within schools is a shared institutional responsibility. It emphasized welcoming parents into all educational establishments as vital partners, working together to ensure the conducive and disciplined environment necessary for children's learning. The ministry also advised parents to refer to its official website or the official pages of education directorates for accurate information concerning their engagement with schools.
