Sahel Security: Algeria’s National Security Extension

General Saïd Chengriha, Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People's National Army, affirmed that Algeria remains a factor of stability in its regional area. He underscored Algeria's role as an authentic partner in addressing Sahel crises, stating that it does not act as an external player. General Chengriha highlighted that the stability of its neighboring countries in the Sahel is fundamentally linked to Algeria's own national security.
Speaking during a working and inspection visit to the 3rd Military Region in Béchar, General Chengriha emphasized Algeria's consistent commitment to strengthening bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and good neighborliness, alongside a steadfast adherence to respecting state sovereignty and independence in line with international law principles. He reiterated President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's view on the intrinsic connection between security and development, which is crucial for tackling the multi-dimensional challenges facing the Sahel region.
Algeria's initiatives to support Sahel nations economically, developmentally, and militarily stem from a deep understanding that their security is a direct extension of its national security. General Chengriha affirmed that comprehensive development serves as the optimal strategy to safeguard the region's populations against terrorism, extremism, and associated crimes. These efforts are evident in the launch of promising structured projects designed to enhance shared infrastructure and foster new development opportunities across the region.
