Oman Commends Algeria’s Ecopark Oued Smar Project

Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, head of Oman's Environment Authority, recently visited Algiers, where he toured the Ecopark Oued Smar. During his visit, Al Amri lauded Algeria's experience in rehabilitating deteriorated environmental sites, transforming them into ecological and recreational spaces. He specifically commended the project to restore the Oued Smar landfill, converting it into an urban park and ecological area, acknowledging the positive outcomes achieved in reintegrating these sites into the urban fabric to protect the environment and enhance citizens' living conditions.

The Omani official also highlighted that the Council of Arab Environmental Ministers has adopted a resolution expressing praise and welcome for Algeria's environmental rehabilitation model. This resolution advocates for the wider implementation of this experience across the Arab world, recognizing it as a valuable framework for fostering the exchange of expertise and experiences among Arab nations in the field of environmental site rehabilitation and valorization.

This visit underscores efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Oman and Algeria in various environmental domains. Key areas of focus include sharing expertise in the circular economy, combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and developing sustainable solutions for environmental protection. Furthermore, Oman is participating as the guest of honor in the 10th International Exhibition for Waste Recovery and Valorization, "REVAD 2026," hosted in Algiers from October 8 to 10, with Mr. Al Amri representing the Sultanate at the event.
