National Veterinary School Hosts Global Bacterial Resistance Forum

The National Higher School of Veterinary Medicine Rabah Bouchama in Algiers hosted the first edition of its International Scientific Days for research stations on October 10 and 11, 2026. This significant event gathered researchers, academics, experts, PhD students, and professionals under the theme of “Bacterial resistance to veterinary products: Challenges, issues, and integrated control strategies within a One Health approach.” The gathering aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, present research findings, and discuss the complex challenges associated with bacterial resistance, while also exploring scientific and practical solutions pertinent to animal and public health.

Organized with the contribution of the three research stations affiliated with the National Higher School of Veterinary Medicine and involving 14 research teams, the scientific days reflected the institution's commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and research development in animal health and veterinary medicine. A central tenet of the discussions was the 'One Health' approach, which recognizes the intricate link between human, animal, and environmental well-being. This perspective underscores the imperative for coordinated efforts across various disciplines and institutions to confront shared health risks, particularly the emergence of resistant bacterial strains due to the inappropriate use of antibiotics.

The issue of bacterial resistance holds critical importance, as it can diminish the effectiveness of treatments, complicate the control of animal diseases, and have repercussions for public health and food chain safety. Participants focused on advancing research into the judicious use of antimicrobials, enhancing veterinary diagnostic and treatment practices, and strengthening the scientific monitoring of bacterial resistance. The meeting also served as a crucial platform to fortify connections among researchers, experts, and students, fostering the exchange of expertise across specializations. This collaboration is expected to guide future research towards addressing the primary health and scientific priorities facing Algeria, reinforcing its proactive stance on global health challenges.
