Algerian weightlifters delivered a historic performance by securing a total of 122 medals at the recent Arab and African Championships held in Mostaganem. The national selection clinched the Arab Championship title in the seniors category, marking a significant achievement. Participating athletes from 29 Arab and African nations competed at the "Commandant Ferradj" multisport complex, with Algeria ultimately placing second overall across both competitions, behind Egypt.

The impressive medal tally included 47 gold, 22 silver, and 53 bronze medals. Specifically, Algerian athletes garnered 68 medals from the Arab Championship, comprising 32 gold, 10 silver, and 26 bronze. In the African Championship, they secured 54 medals, including 15 gold, 12 silver, and 27 bronze. Mohamed Bouabache, the National Technical Director of the Algerian Weightlifting Federation, commended the high technical level demonstrated by the Algerian weightlifters, even amidst strong competition and the presence of top-tier athletes.

These championships also saw the establishment of several new Arab and African records, with Bouabache noting that the results underscore the significant potential within Algerian weightlifting. Several athletes, including those competing internationally for the first time, successfully improved their performances. Notable individual achievements included Amina Yahia Mamoun, who won nine gold medals across junior and senior categories, and Lakhder Zaïdi, who secured 12 medals, six of which were gold. Lamis Driss also contributed six gold medals to the national haul.

The outstanding results achieved by the weightlifting team affirm the importance of continuing efforts to develop athletes' technical skills and prepare them for future events. This ongoing commitment is crucial for enhancing Algeria's presence and competitive standing on both the Arab and continental stages.
