National Team Secures Commanding Lead in JO-2028 Qualifiers

The Algerian women's national football team secured a significant 8-0 victory against the Central African Republic in the first leg of their JO-2028 Olympic qualifiers. This dominant offensive display, achieved at the 5-Juillet Olympic stadium in Algiers, has provided the team with a substantial advantage. Coached by Farid Benstiti, the team is now set to play the second leg at the Hocine Aït-Ahmed stadium in Tizi Ouzou.
The considerable lead from the initial match allows the Algerian squad to approach the return leg with confidence, with the second confrontation largely seen as a formality. The team aims to confirm their superiority and secure their advancement to the third round of the qualifiers, striving for a historic first qualification for the Olympic women's tournament in Los Angeles.
This positive dynamic for the Algerian women's team is further reinforced by their third-place finish in the CAN-2026, which led to a historic qualification for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. For the JO-2028 qualifiers, coach Benstiti called up 26 players, including new additions like Célina Ould Hocine from Paris FC and Nesrine Bahlouli from Al-Nassr. A total of 35 African national teams are participating in this five-round qualification campaign, which concludes in December 2027, with the two finalists earning the Confederation of African Football (CAF) tickets to the Olympic tournament scheduled for July 2028.
