Tipaza to Host New National Tourism School for 500 Students

Algeria is advancing plans for a new National Higher School of Tourism in Tipaza, a project designed to significantly enhance the nation's higher education and training capabilities within the tourism and hospitality sectors. The school is projected to accommodate 500 pedagogical seats, playing a pivotal role in qualifying national competencies to align with the evolving demands of the industry. Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries, Houria Meddahi, recently chaired a working meeting to review the preliminary architectural design for this initiative, underscoring its importance for sector development.

The proposed institution will be strategically located at the entrance of Tipaza city, spanning an area of 11.8 hectares. Its architectural concept encompasses integrated functional poles, including general administration, a pedagogical hub with lecture halls, study rooms, laboratories, and a library. Additionally, the design features practical application facilities such as a training hotel and restaurant, along with a dedicated university life pole offering residences for both staff and students, catering facilities, and a sports center equipped with a stadium and a semi-Olympic covered swimming pool. The development of this new school coincides with the National Higher School of Tourism's 50th anniversary, marking five decades of preparing specialized professionals in the field.

During the review, Minister Meddahi emphasized the critical need for the project to respect Tipaza's distinct historical, cultural, and tourism identity, ensuring architectural harmony with the urban environment while meeting the requirements of a specialized university institution. She provided several directives to refine the design, including the creation of an independent library wing near the study areas and a separate wing within the university life pole for the main restaurant, student club, and recreational spaces. The General Director of the School has been tasked with coordinating further workshops with the consortium of consulting firms to integrate these observations and finalize the design for approval.
