Attaf, Lamola Meet to Strengthen Algeria-South Africa Partnership

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held discussions with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, in Algiers. The meeting aimed to advance bilateral relations and explore further avenues for reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two nations. This engagement occurred as the ministers co-chaired the ministerial meeting dedicated to monitoring the implementation of outcomes from the seventh session of the Algerian-South African High Joint Cooperation Committee, which also took place in Algiers in December 2024.

The discussions were guided by the directives of both countries' leaders to fortify their strategic alliance and assess the progress of mutual commitments. A key focus was the realization of objectives outlined in the Strategic Partnership Declaration, signed in December 2024. This involves translating agreements into tangible projects and practical results that reflect the depth of their relationship and shared aspirations.

Furthermore, the two ministers exchanged views on a range of regional and international issues of common interest. They explored opportunities to enhance coordination and consultation within various multilateral forums, including the African Union and the United Nations. Specific attention was given to developments in the Middle East and the Western Sahara issue, underscoring their commitment to collaborative diplomatic efforts.
