Council of Nation Hosts China for Technology, AI Talks

Muhammad Omaroun, head of the Council of the Nation's Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Algerian Community Abroad Committee, recently hosted a delegation from the Proposals Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, led by its Vice President, Gao Hongjun. The meeting, held at the Council of the Nation headquarters, focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and expanding the Algerian-Chinese partnership across various strategic sectors. Officials affirmed the deep historical foundations, mutual trust, and shared political will underpinning the strong relations between the two nations.
Discussions highlighted specific strategic areas for future collaboration, including technology, innovation, scientific research, artificial intelligence, space, and digitalization. Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, expresses a strong interest in strengthening its ties with China, which stands as one of its most significant trade partners. The nation's developing institutions specialized in artificial intelligence and nanotechnology were noted as key areas for expanded cooperation.
The ongoing partnership already encompasses cultural, scientific, and humanitarian fields. Examples include the establishment of a Confucius Center at the University of Algiers and robust student exchange programs, which have facilitated the enrollment of 29 Chinese students in Algeria and 30 Algerian students in China. Furthermore, past cooperation in space involved the launch of two Algerian satellites from China through a collaboration between the Algerian Space Agency and a Chinese industrial company, alongside joint efforts in digitalization such as the Algerian National Center for Digital Services, optical fiber networks, and telecommunications infrastructure development.
Gao Hongjun conveyed China's commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative and emphasized Algeria's role as an important strategic partner in North Africa, acknowledging broad prospects for developing cooperation in innovation, technology, and scientific research. Both sides underscored the importance of continuing exchange visits and sharing expertise, aiming to translate their shared vision into concrete projects and partnerships that serve their mutual interests.
