Niger President Thanks Algeria for Oil Well Assistance

Algeria sent a technical mission to Niger to assist with an incident at the "Goumri W-8" oil well in the Agadem oil field, located in northeast Niger. This prompt response led Nigerien President General Abdourahamane Tiani to express his gratitude and appreciation to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the swift mobilization of Algerian expertise. The Nigerien Ministers of Petroleum and Environment also conveyed their thanks to Algeria and its Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, for this initiative rooted in solidarity.
The technical mission, which included cadres and experts from Algeria's Ministry of Hydrocarbons, the Hydrocarbon Regulatory Authority, and the Sonatrach complex, operated in Niger from October 12 to 19. During its deployment, the Algerian delegation engaged in discussions with the Nigerien Ministers of Petroleum and Environment. These talks focused on assessing the current status of the oil well and outlining urgent measures required to contain the incident and mitigate its environmental effects, drawing upon Algeria's extensive technical expertise in the hydrocarbons sector.
This initiative underscores the profound fraternal and solidarity-based relations between Algeria and Niger, embodying Algeria's commitment to share its technical capabilities with neighboring nations. Guided by President Tebboune's directives, Algeria continues to contribute to the development of Niger's hydrocarbons sector, enhance its national institutional capacities, and reinforce African cooperation grounded in mutual benefit and solidarity. Such prompt assistance to address technical malfunctions in energy projects and infrastructure in neighboring countries is a hallmark of Algeria's regional engagement, previously including support for Niger's national refinery and broader technical partnerships across public works and telecommunications networks in the Sahel and neighboring states.
