Minister Belaribi Announces Three New University Hospitals

Minister of Housing, Urban Planning, and the City, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, has announced the official commencement of studies for the establishment of three new university hospitals. These significant projects are earmarked for the wilayas of Sétif, Annaba, and Béjaïa, and are included in the national public equipment program slated for 2027. The initiative aims to reinforce the country's national health system and elevate the standard of hospital services provided to citizens.

The selection of Sétif, Annaba, and Béjaïa for these new hospital structures is strategically aligned with their considerable population bases and existing active medical faculties. University hospitals are designed to integrate patient care with university-level medical training and clinical research. The minister presented these plans to the National Popular Assembly's finance and budget commission, outlining their inclusion within the departmental budget as part of the 2027 finance bill discussions.

This development is part of a broader state strategy focused on addressing key developmental priorities and supporting urban expansion with accessible, high-quality public facilities. Alongside the university hospitals, the 2027 plan also incorporates the registration of 30 multi-service clinics to ease pressure on existing hospitals and the creation of 40 urban security headquarters. These efforts collectively underscore Algeria's commitment to decentralizing specialized medical care, thereby alleviating the burden on families who often need to travel to Algiers for advanced treatment, and multiplying regional poles for healthcare excellence.

While the initial phase involves preparatory studies, signaling a clear national ambition for modern health infrastructure, specific financial allocations, precise construction timelines, and projected capacities for these three sites are expected to be detailed once the studies are concluded. The long-term vision is to ensure robust and accessible healthcare services across the Algerian territory.
