Minister Ait Massoudane Urges African Ebola Digital Platform

Algeria's Health Minister, Mohamed Seddik Ait Massoudene, proposed establishing a continent-wide digital platform for the regular and continuous monitoring of Ebola outbreaks. Speaking via videoconference during an African meeting focused on bolstering the response to Ebola and reinforcing continental health security, organized by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Minister Ait Massoudene emphasized the platform's role in facilitating consistent information exchange among African nations and specialized health organizations.

The proposed digital mechanism, which would be supported by a common dashboard, is designed to accelerate the development of epidemiological surveillance systems and data sharing. It aims to gather, update, and exchange epidemiological data regularly, allowing for the tracking of infection progression, identification of outbreak epicenters, and assessment of health needs. This system would further enhance early warning capabilities, coordinate health interventions, and support evidence-based decision-making. The Minister highlighted that this initiative would also contribute to evaluating measures, directing human and material resources to defined priorities, and fostering greater integration among African health systems, thereby increasing the collective response's effectiveness.

During his participation, Minister Ait Massoudene reaffirmed Algeria's commitment, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to supporting African initiatives for public health promotion, strengthening solidarity among continental states, and adopting an integrated collective approach to address current and future health challenges. Algeria's dedication is further demonstrated through its financial contribution to the fund established to support the Ebola response, underscoring the importance of resource mobilization and shared responsibilities as fundamental pillars for an effective and sustainable collective response.

The Minister stressed the necessity for ongoing and effective African coordination, alongside intensified joint mobilization of resources. He reiterated Algeria's readiness to continue collaborating with fraternal African countries and continental and international health organizations, offering its expertise and capabilities to bolster health preparedness, develop epidemiological surveillance, and advance digital transformation. This commitment also extends to intensifying the exchange of expertise and building capacity across the continent.
