Saudi Savola Group Plans Production Expansion in Algeria

Algeria's Ministry of Industry recently held discussions with a delegation from the Saudi Savola Group, which included its president, Sameh Hassan, and the head of its Algerian subsidiary. The meeting focused on reviewing the group's current activities in Algeria and exploring opportunities for future development. Savola expressed its intention to expand its industrial production on Algerian soil beyond its existing operations.

The discussions outlined a roadmap for growth, emphasizing two key areas: increasing the proportion of Algerian-origin inputs and components in Savola's products, and broadening the scope of its manufacturing capabilities already established in the country. This strategic direction aligns with Algeria's industrial policy, which prioritizes a higher rate of local integration, aiming to transform more raw materials domestically, reduce import dependency, and generate added value within Algeria.

Savola Group has maintained a presence in the Algerian market for several years through its subsidiary, Afia International Algeria, located in Oran, which currently produces and distributes Afia brand table oil. While the precise details concerning investment amounts, timelines, or new locations were not specified following the meeting, the official communiqué indicated the exploration of "possibilities" for expansion and a commitment to strengthening the group's presence in the national market.
