Algeria Reinforces Social State, Accelerates Key National Infrastructure Development

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has outlined a governmental approach aimed at safeguarding citizens' purchasing power and bolstering socio-economic development, thereby reaffirming the social character of the state. During a recent Council of Ministers meeting, President Tebboune directed the inclusion of salary increases in the 2027 finance bill, fulfilling a commitment to the Algerian people. He also stipulated that no new taxes should be introduced that would impact the purchasing power of middle-income or limited-income individuals, underscoring that financial stability should not compromise citizen welfare.

In parallel, President Tebboune issued immediate instructions for the launch of strategic railway projects linking the north and south of the country. These projects encompass sections from Laghouat to El Menia, In Salah, and Tamanrasset. The directive emphasized accelerating construction to ensure full project completion by the end of 2028. This rail network is envisioned as more than just a transportation facility; it is expected to enhance the movement of people and goods, open broader horizons for economic activity, support investment, and improve citizen travel conditions, fostering more balanced development across the nation.

The African Development Bank's financing approval for the El Menia to Tamanrasset section highlights a practical step towards realizing this strategic initiative. President Tebboune conveyed his gratitude and encouragement to the sector's workers, technicians, and engineers for their efforts in bringing this project, described as a long-awaited dream since independence, closer to reality. These directives collectively underscore a fixed public policy choice to integrate financial management with social concerns, ensuring that the state's economic path remains aligned with its social responsibilities.
