Algiers Airport Upgrades VIP Lounges to Enhance Hub Status

Algiers International Airport has initiated a significant modernization project for its VIP and VVIP lounges, as announced by the Société de Gestion des Services et Infrastructures Aéroportuaires d’Alger (SGSIA) on October 3. This extensive overhaul of the West Terminal's premium facilities is designed to meet and surpass international standards, enhancing the travel experience for prestigious passengers. The upgraded lounges are expected to feature ultra-modern designs and amenities.
This initiative is a core component of Algiers International Airport's broader development strategy, which aims to position it as a major regional aviation hub connecting African destinations with the rest of the world. The airport's leadership is committed to strengthening national airport infrastructure, thereby solidifying Algeria's role as a prominent international transit point. The modernization efforts are also complemented by the ongoing international expansion of Air Algérie, which continues to enlarge its flight network across Africa, Asia, and Europe while simultaneously developing and renewing its fleet.
The renovation of dedicated zones for premium travelers occurs in parallel with several other key modernization projects across the airport platform. These include the integration of advanced technological solutions such as smart electronic gates (e-gates), sophisticated control systems, rapid baggage scanners, and the refurbishment of boarding bridges. These collective upgrades underscore a comprehensive strategy to enhance operational efficiency, security, and overall passenger services at Algiers International Airport.
