Ministry Designates Ten Tourist Zones for 70 Investment Plots

Algeria's Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts is advancing the nation's tourism sector by making land available for new projects, an initiative highlighted during a coordination meeting chaired by Minister Houria Meddahi. The meeting focused on mobilizing economic land and expediting its availability to project developers, with the Minister emphasizing that tourism development relies on clear, developed, and exploitable land, as well as the removal of potential obstacles. A key presentation during the meeting detailed the development of ten Tourist Expansion Zones (ZET), which are set to provide 70 land plots to attract investors.
These newly designated land plots within the ZETs are intended for the construction of various tourism infrastructures, including tourist villages, hotels, and comprehensive resorts. Such investments are specifically aimed at contributing to the growth of domestic tourism across the country. More broadly, Algeria's tourism portfolio includes 238 classified tourist expansion zones and sites distributed across 50 wilayas, with 86 ZETs already possessing dedicated tourism development plans. Of these, 25 zones have already undergone initial development efforts.
Significant progress is also being made with 294 approved hotel projects currently underway within these Tourist Expansion Zones. This total includes 111 projects operating under concession rights and an additional 183 projects being developed on privately owned land. To ensure effective implementation and coordination, the head of the sector has called for enhanced cooperation among various entities, including tourism directorates, state land services, land conservation authorities, local administrations, and the National Agency for Tourism Development (ANFT).
