Algiers Institutions Reinforce National Memory on Migration Day

Algeria is commemorating National Migration Day, observed annually on October 17, 1961, with a series of cultural and educational events across Algiers. These initiatives, spearheaded by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Wakfs and the Foundation of Arts and Culture for Algiers Wilaya, aim to reinforce national memory, patriotic values, and the profound sacrifices made by the Algerian people for freedom and independence.
The Foundation of Arts and Culture for Algiers Wilaya has organized a diverse program of activities in its various venues and facilities. These include the broadcasting of national anthems, hands-on painting workshops, comprehensive exhibitions of historical photographs and books, and engaging cultural competitions. A historical seminar is also part of the program, all designed to introduce this significant historical milestone and its national implications, thereby preserving national memory and transmitting it to younger generations through culture, arts, and educational activities.
In parallel, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Wakfs hosted a study day titled 'October 17, 1961… Épopée de l’émigration et mémoire de la fidélité' at Dar El Imam in Mohammadia, Algiers. The event, held under the slogan 'Des profondeurs de la mémoire aux horizons de l’avenir,' was inaugurated by Mourad Meïza, Director General of Religious Guidance and Islamic Culture. Mr. Meïza underscored the pivotal role of imams and religious advisors in fortifying civic values, cultivating love for the homeland, and embedding a sense of national belonging, also reaffirming the ministry's commitment to promoting constructive religious discourse and encouraging talent through national recognition.
